Case 3 - What really happened and assignment

Mobile Online Learning

The actual case had finances of 15.000 USD. The researchers created a course in Human Rights as the first test course that could be followed for free regardless of device, i.e. from a smartphone, tablet, PC, etc., and those who completed the course received a digital badge along with a certificate of completion. The results were very positive and the next stage was then to create a Kenyan Cloud School, which is a localized MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) that contains the entire curriculum from Kenyan secondary school. The intention is that any Kenya can access the curriculum for secondary school for free and use it to validate their knowledge and hopefully eventually take the required exams in Kenya in order to receive their secondary school diploma. The Kenyan cloud school can even be used as a blended learning resource by existing traditional schools. Local educators donate time to fill the various courses with high-quality content in order to address sustainability. Scalability is addressed by using peer review systems for grading of assignments.

Please contrast your previous options with the ones made in the real case.

Discuss with your peers what are the probable consequences of those choices.

List the questions that you would formulate to the implementers of Plan Ceibal in order to gain a deeper understanding of it.

Discuss with your peers the replicability of this model in two other national contexts you know well.
